Keep the Sun in Connecticut

The WNBA is trying to take the Connecticut Sun out of state, but we can stop them. A $325 million offer is on the table to keep the Sun in Connecticut—offering a bigger arena in Hartford, proven sell-out crowds, and access for loyal fans. Plus, keeping the team local preserves the UConn-to-WNBA fan pipeline, a powerful source of growth for the league. The Mohegan Tribe supports keeping the team in state. Fans want to keep the team in state. But the WNBA and NBA are pushing a sale to Houston instead. Let’s protect our legacy and demand the Sun stay in Connecticut.

The Women’s Basketball Capital of the World

Hartford offers the Sun a bigger arena, a history of sellouts for UConn women’s basketball, and easy access for the fan base that has supported the team for two decades.

The College-to-Pros Fan Pipeline

The WNBA’s meteoric growth has been powered by fans of the college game following their favorite players to the league — that energy is centered on UConn, and the Sun now feature four Husky legends on the roster.

Honor the Tribe's Stewardship and the Fans' Legacy

Over twenty years ago, the Mohegan Tribe saved this franchise, and have been steady stewards of the team and league ever since — hosting draft nights, becoming the first profitable franchise, and fielding perennial competitors. And fans have been one of the league’s strongest followings. Keeping the Sun here rewards loyalty and secures the team’s future.

Tell WNBA Board of Governors
and Mohegan Tribe:

Keep the Sun in Connecticut

We write to you as fans, season-ticket holders, and lifelong supporters of women’s basketball. The Connecticut Sun have been at the center of our state’s sports identity for more than two decades, inspiring generations and building one of the WNBA’s most passionate fan bases.

As you consider the future of the franchise, we urge you to choose Hartford. Doing so is not only the right business decision — it is also the fans’ choice. Connecticut has shown up for the Sun year after year at Mohegan Sun Arena. By keeping the team here, you reward that loyalty and generate a reputational win for the league: honoring tradition, listening to the fans, and showing that the WNBA grows with its community, not away from it.

Equally important, Hartford safeguards one of the league’s most powerful growth pipelines: the bridge between college women’s basketball and the WNBA. UConn women’s basketball consistently draws sellout crowds and national attention. Relocating the Sun out of state would sever that connection — but placing them in Hartford keeps the pipeline intact and thriving. Connecticut remains one of the few places in the country where women’s basketball is already part of the culture, and where the WNBA can continue to benefit directly from that energy.

The Connecticut Sun deserve a stage that reflects their excellence. Hartford offers that stage — a centrally located arena, a proven market, and a fan base ready to grow with the team. We respectfully ask that you choose Hartford, both to honor the past and to secure the league’s future.
